By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The state's first boating incident of the Memorial Day weekend has been reported on Lake Lanier.

Sunday night's update from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the incident happened around 6 p.m. Sunday when two personal watercraft collided with each other in Gwinnett County near Buford. One of the drivers suffered minor injuries to their leg, but they reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene.

Lake Lanier has also seen five of the 13 boating under the influence arrests made across the state through Sunday night, with five more being reported on Lake Allatoona near Acworth and another three on Lake Chehaw near Albany. Also, one drowning was reported Sunday in the Brunswick area.

The Georgia DNR will continue to issue reports as Memorial Day weekend continues through Monday night. The DNR partnered with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety leading into the weekend to promote safety tips for both waterways and roadways.
