By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A pair of talented billiards players from Winder have recently added a national championship to their accolades.

James Fleming and Damen Harrison of the team dubbed “Nut Jobs” won the 2024 American Poolplayers Association (APA) 9-Ball Doubles Pool Championship on May 2 in Las Vegas.

Nut Jobs were one of only 384 teams nationwide to qualify for the APA 9-Ball Doubles Championship held at the Westgate Las Vegas.

Nut Jobs earned $5,000 and  bragging rights upon returning home to their local poolroom in Winder. Fleming and Harrison both are members of the local APA League in the Winder area.

The Doubles Championship was part of the APA’s Poolplayer Championships featuring 12 divisions, more than 3,400 total players and nearly $900,000 in prize money.

Based in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, the APA sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league throughout the United States, and as the Canadian Pool League in Canada with 250,000 members competing in weekly 8-Ball and 9‑Ball leagues.

The APA produces four major tournaments—the APA World Pool Championships, the APA Poolplayer Championships, the APA Junior Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship—that, together, pay out nearly $2 Million in cash and prizes each year.
