The City of Winder and the Environmental Social Governance Operations recently won Best Tasting Tap Water in the state of Georgia from the Georgia Section of the American Water Works Association and the Drinking Water Taste Test Competition.
The staff provided a sample of water from the Highway 53 water treatment plant, which won the district-level award. Winder advanced to the statewide finals and defeated 16 other utilities for the best tasting tap water in Georgia.
The city will now compete in the American Water Works Association national competition this June in Denver, Colorado.
“Being named the best-tasting water in Georgia is something every resident of Winder can be proud of,” Mayor Jimmy Terrell said. “Our water doesn’t just meet the highest standards—it stands out across the entire state. The award reflects the expertise, hard work, and pride our team puts into delivering safe, high-quality water to our community every single day.”
Winder and ESG operations were awarded the platinum award by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. This award recognizes water facilities that have had no permit violations for maximum contaminant level (MCL) and no NPDES permit violations during the preceding calendar year.
To be eligible for the platinum award, an organization must have received four consecutive Gold Awards.
