Jerry Smith, who has served as the interim chief of Hall County Fire Rescue since August 2023, has now been named to the position full time, effective immediately.
Smith was selected to fill the role by Hall County administration after a recruitment process done by third-party agency The Mercer Group. A release from the county Monday morning said Smith brings over 30 years of experience to the role.
“Filling this role was not something we took lightly,” Hall County Administrator Zach Propes said. “I feel completely confident in Chief Smith’s ability to lead Hall County Fire Rescue forward, to serve the needs of the men and women in the department and to maintain the excellent level of service Hall County citizens deserve.”
Smith previously served as the Assistant Chief of Hall County Fire Rescue, but was named interim chief following the sudden resignations of both Chief Chris Armstrong and Deputy Chief Tim Woodward on August 28.
“I am truly honored to serve Hall County Fire Rescue in this role, and I’m committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens while continuing to support and develop our dedicated firefighters and emergency personnel,” Smith said.
