By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter
The Gwinnett County Police Department is mourning the loss of a devoted and honored K9 Unit member, Peper.

A press release from Gwinnett County Police Friday morning said that on Sunday, February 25, the K9 Unit said farewell to K9 Peper after an unexpected illness. Peper had recently developed a mass near her heart, causing severe medical complications.

Police officials added that during her time with their K9 Unit,  Peper dutifully served the people of Gwinnett County since October of 2018.  Under the guidance of Corporal Caleb Jefferson, Peper responded to 206 service calls, participated in 41 patrol apprehensions, and located 32 evidence items for investigators.

Gwinnett officials also note that it was K9 Peper and Corporal Jefferson who stepped into a new role for the SWAT Team following the untimely death of K9 Blue on Sept. 10, 2020.
