Girls basketball playoff scoreboard: White County advances to Elite 8; Buford rolls; Lakeview heads to Final 4; Jefferson, Dawson Co. fall

CLEVELAND, Ga. — Emma Lightsey scored 25 points to lead White County past Franklin County, 66-35, and into the quarterfinals for the first time in 40 years. 

The Lady Warriors (22-8 Region 7-3A No. 3 seed) were in control after the first quarter, leading 19-6, and extended the lead to 36-17 at halftime. 

The Lady Warriors pushed their lead to 34 points at the end of the third quarter. 

Kylie Watkins added 13 points, and Aaliyah Anderson chipped in 11. 

White County will travel to Region 1-3A No. 2 seed Monroe on Tuesday. Game time to be announced. 


BUFORD 71, 
NORTH GWINNETT 24

On Friday, Buford took care of business early en route to the blowout win over North Gwinnett in the second round of the Class 7A tournament at Buford Arena. 

Ava Grace Watson led the Lady Wolves with 18 points, and Lydia Ledford had 17 points.

Ledford and Watson combined for 33 points in the first half and helped the Lady Wolves to a 57-15 lead at the half. 

Ledford knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half. Watson scored 12 of 18 points from the 3-point line in the opening half. 

Buford (26-3 Region 8-7A No. 1 seed) will host Region 3-7A top seed North Paulding in the quarterfinals at Buford Arena. North Paulding knocked off Newton 48-37 on Friday. 


CARTERSVILLE 66 
JEFFERSON 64 OT

The Lady Dragons (25-4 Region 8-5A No. 1 seed) had a shot to win it in overtime, but what would have been the game-winning 3-pointer missed in the loss to Cartersville (17-12 Region 7-5A No. 2 seed) Friday night in the second round of the Class 5A tournament. 

Jefferson trailed twice by double digits — 10 at the half and 15 in the third — but rallied back to tie the game at the end of regulation. 

Emeri Billings, Delaney Dewitt and Skyler Brady each had 14 points to lead the Lady Dragons, and Karlee Law had 10 points.

The Lady Dragons hit 11 3-pointers. 


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 76,  
BROOKWOOD 43

Taliah Gaither scored 25 points and pulled 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Lions (25-1 GIAA) to the win over Brookwood and into the GIAA semifinals Friday night at Tatnall Square in Macon.

Dynesty Putman and Emyrie Combs added 12 points each. Combs dished out eight assists. 


HART COUNTY 48,  
DAWSON COUNTY 40

Hart County rallied to the win over Dawson County in the second round of the Class 3A tournament in Hartwell on Friday.

The Lady Tigers (18-12 Region 7-3A No. 4 seed) led 20-12 at halftime and 28-26 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs caught fire in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 22-12 to rally to the win.

Abby Samples-Slaton scored 21 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Alexis Walker led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. 


BANKS COUNTY 43,
MODEL 29

After jumping out to a 15-3 lead after the first quarter, Model rallied back in the second to tie the game at halftime, 21-21. 

Banks County came out in the third quarter and held Model to two points to take back control, 32-23, at the end of the quarter. 

The Lady Leopards held Model to seven points in the second half. 

Ryleigh Murphy led the Lady Leopards with 14 points. Reese Murphy added 11.
