Hall County was one of 12 Georgia counties recently recognized as an AARP Age-Friendly Community.
According to a press release from Hall County Government, the designation means the county joins nearly 800 other communities nationwide that are committed to serving an aging population.
“Hall County is an extremely diverse community and, as a Board, we are very proud of that,” Hall County Board of Commissioners Chairman Richard Higgins said. “Not only is Hall County a great place for young people to raise their families, but it’s a great place for those families to grow older, retire, help raise their grandchildren and enjoy life.”
The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities was created in 2012 as an affiliate of the World Health Organization Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities and recognizes a county's efforts to make life more accommodating for senior citizens.
Hall County gained its recognition after a submission by the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission. About 16% of Hall County's population is 65 years or older, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
“It is an honor to receive this designation, and we thank the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission for its role in ensuring Hall County remains a community that values a high quality of life for its seniors and the importance of meeting their local needs,” Higgins said.
"Through the NAFSC age-friendly program, AARP assists selected communities by tapping into national and global research and serving as a catalyst to educate, encourage, promote and recognize improvements that benefit residents of all life stages," the press release reads.
