Crash in Dawson County injures one driver and forces road closure for hours

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Georgia State Patrol officials say one person was injured from a wreck at the crossing of Georgia 400 and State Route 53 on Tuesday that involved a fuel spill and forced lane closures for hours.

The GSP says they were dispatched to crash involving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and a CMV on SR 53 in Dawson County just after 11:00 a.m.  After arriving on scene, troopers learned that the driver of the Silverado had failed to yield while turning left onto SR 53 from Georgia 400's southbound center lane and struck the CMV on the driver’s side.

SR 53 from SR 400 and Lumpkin Campground Road was shut down due to a large fuel spill from the fuel tank of the CMV after impact. The roadway was shut down for approximately 3 hours to clear the fuel and crash debris.

A release from the GSP says minor injuries were reported from the driver of the Silverado and no injuries were reported from the CMV driver.  Their names have not been released.
