GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Payton Cable nailed the game-winning 14-footer to rally the Chestatee girls basketball team past ninth-ranked Banks County at home on Tuesday.
The Lady War Eagles rallied from double-digit deficits thrice in the second half, including a 17-0 run to close the third quarter down by two, 30-28, and an 11-1 run to take the lead and win. Chestatee outscored Banks County 20-6 in the third quarter and 36-20 in the second half.
But Banks County pushed the lead to 10 points again in the fourth quarter thanks to Riley Murphy, who scored five points in the Leopards' 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter and extend the lead, 38-28 with 6:20 left. Emmie Chitwood gave Banks County a 41-31 lead with a t3-pointer with 5:10 remaining.
Then it was all Chestatee. Caroline Bull, Cable, and Addison Boyd set the Lady War Eagles on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 41-39, and Boyd tied the game with a 3-pointer with 1:16 left.
Caroline Bull led Chestatee with 11 points, Payton Cable had 10, Jamya Weaver had 8, Blakely Boyd and Ali Jae Bull had 6 points each, and Addison Boyd had 3.
