FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Cherokee Bluff used an 11-run sixth inning to rally for a 13-8 win over Monroe Area to close out the regular season in Region 8-3A on Tuesday.
The Lady Bears (21-6, 13-2 Region 8-3A) trailed 8-1 after the Lady Hurricanes (19-9, 10-5 Region 8-3A) scored four runs each in the first and fifth. But they pounded out eight hits in the big inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Lillie Diehl to take the lead.
Kate Herren had three hits, including a solo home run in the fifth, and a pair of RBI for Bluff. Audrey Graham and Mac Warren both knocked in two runs for the Lady Bears.
Both teams already had clinched the top two spots in the region for the upcoming Class 3A playoffs. Bluff clinched the region title last week.

The Lady Vikings scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie en route to a Region 8-3A in both teams’ regular season finales.
The game had no bearing on the playoffs as East Hall (12-17, 7-8 Region 8-3A) will take the No. 4 seed into the playoffs. The Lady Spartans did not qualify for the postseason.
But West Hall scored a run in the first on a Ali Svetz RBI single. The Lady Vikings answered with three run in the second, helped by a pair of West Hall errors.
The Lady Spartans, however, reclaimed the lead with three runs in the third. East Hall tied it at 4 with an Amari Burce home run in the third and again in the fourth on a Kaylana Curry home run.
Burce got the win for East Hall, allowing just one earned run on six hits in seven innings and striking out nine.
McKenzie Hooper took the loss for West Hall going 5 1/3 innings, surrendering seven runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out three and walking four.

The Lady Wolves concluded their 2024 regular season with a 4-inning run rule victory on the road in Region 8-6A.
The win gave Buford (23-1, 12-0 Region 8-6A) its third consecutive undefeated season in region play.
Buford’s bats remained hot, pounding out 18 hits, six for extra bases, with every starter getting at least one hit.
They used an 8-run second inning to blow it open.
Sophomore Olivia Nagel (5-0) started the game for Buford in the circle, before being relieved by Freshman Taylor Jackson and Sophomore Kennedy Townsend.
Senior Izzy Rettiger had two hits, including a triple, and 2 RBI to lead the offense. Senior Kylie Gower had a hit and 2 RBI and sophomores Janie Goldin and Ella Pierce each had two hits for Buford.
