The incident happened just before 8:00 a.m. in an area off of Ga. 368 just north of Elberton. A social media post from Elbert County Emergency Services said a man called authorities saying he was hunting hogs in the area when his dog chased a group of pigs.

The dog reportedly chased the pigs to the quarry where all the animals went over an approximately 85-foot drop. While no update was given on the status of the pigs, but the man said the dog was alive at the bottom of the quarry.

Authorities responded and made their way to the dog using a system of ladders and ropes, eventually recovering the dog and bringing back to its owner.

Emergency officials said there were no obvious injuries to the dog.
