Several key contests on Friday could help set up a busy final two weeks of the regular season around northeast Georgia.
Teams like the Buford girls in Region 8-7A and the North Forsyth girls in Region 8-6A can move within one win of clinching titles with victories. Others, like Habersham Central and Gainesville boys in 8-6A, are battling for second place and to stay in region title contention. Both Dawson County teams will try to move closer to the top two in Region 7-3A with huge home games against Pickens.
A surging Lumpkin County boys squad, which has won seven straight, will try to keep their momentum going at home against Gilmer.
In Region 8-2A, Union County travels to Athens Academy trying to keep pace with Banks County for the top spot in the region.
Region 8-4A has a crossover day.
It will be a key day for most regions as the jockeying for seedings for region tournaments heats up.
