A deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office was arrested this week on a criminal trespass charge.

According to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Deputy Zachary Billings, 35, of Jefferson, was charged with criminal trespass and violation of oath of office.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office on Monday requested the GBI to investigate the incident that led to Billings' arrest.

Billings allegedly entered a home off Lakeview Terrace in Jefferson without permission or authority on Sunday. Billings was on duty at the time of the incident.

He turned himself in at the Jackson County Jail without incident.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said Billings has been terminated from the agency.

"As the Sheriff, I am disappointed and saddened at this behavior by a Deputy Sheriff who is sworn to uphold the law," Mangum said in a social media post. "I will not tolerate these actions by anyone."

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review.
