Suspects identified after brother & sister found dead near I-85/I-985 split

Gwinnett County Police have released the names of two suspects connected to the deaths of a brother and sister who were found dead Sunday evening near the I-85 / I-985 split.

The agency said Friday afternoon Manuel Lorenzo Sanchez, 41, and Ricardo Lorenzo Montes, 24, were wanted in connection with the deaths of Maria Rosaria Montes Dorantes, 23, and Juan Angel Montes, 16, of Griffin.

Sanchez is wanted on two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes. Ricardo Montes is wanted for tampering with evidence.

The whereabouts of the two suspects are unknown as of Friday afternoon. 

The Gwinnett County Police Department said officers responded at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to an unknown medical call at the I-85 and I-985 split. The brother and sister were found dead on the shoulder in the grass by a passerby.

There were no vehicles near their bodies when they were spotted on the shoulder. 

The bodies were taken to the Medical Examiner's Office, where investigators determined they were shot and killed. Investigators believe the bodies were on the shoulder for no more than two days before they were discovered.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said Thursday afternoon an investigation was underway after a brother and sister were found shot to death on a shoulder near the Interstate 85 and Interstate 985 split.

Sgt. Michele Pihera, public information officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department, said officers responded at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to an unknown medical call at the I-85 and I-985 split. The brother and sister were found dead on the shoulder in the grass by a passerby.

The two victims were identified as Maria Rosaria Montes Dorantes, 23, and Juan Angel Montes, 16, of Griffin.

There were no vehicles near their bodies when they were spotted on the shoulder. 

The bodies were taken to the Medical Examiner's Office, where investigators determined they were shot and killed. Pihera said investigators believe the bodies were on the shoulder for no more than two days before they were discovered.

Investigators with the homicide unit are continuing to follow up on leads and are seeking tips from the public.
