Banks County Sheriff’s Office posted a scam warning for locals on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and provided advice on how to approach suspicious calls on Facebook.
These scam calls are identified by an unknown number calling and saying that they are a form of “law enforcement”, “court” or “bonding agent”. The call will pressure the citizen to pay "bond" or "fine" money immediately—often asking for cash, gift cards, or a courier pickup.
BCSO described these as warning signs to look out for when picking up calls: You’re told to pay immediately or face arrest, payment is requested by cash, gift cards, or courier pickup, the caller says you can’t tell anyone, or the caller ID looks official, but it is faked.
BCSO reminds the public through their Facebook post that real law enforcement will never demand money over the phone or send someone to your home for payment.
