The Banks County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is warning residents of an ongoing scam in the area.
The scammers pose as deputies or court officials, and tell the unsuspecting victims that they have missed jury duty and owe fines or face arrest.
They reminded residents that law enforcement will never demand money over the phone and that warrants are not resolved with gift cards, Venmo, or wire transfers.
They also said that if you get a suspicious call to hang up and call your local agency directly.
