A routine traffic stop in Duluth on June 29 uncovered multiple financial thefts and fraud charges totaling over $100,000.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, Charles Clay, 22, of Duluth was pulled over for using his cell phone while operating his vehicle.
During the stop, the officer observed Clay with multiple credit cards that contained names other than his own as well as multiple deposit receipts and images of checks.
Clay was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on charges of driving without a valid license, failure to exercise due care (Georgia Hands-Free Law), seat belt violation and financial transaction card theft. Clay bonded out of jail soon after.
The lead detective on the case obtained bank records and surveillance video and nine additional warrants were for Clay including three counts of financial transaction card fraud, three counts of forgery 3rd degree and three counts of identity fraud.
Clay's whereabouts are unknown and GCPD detectives ask the public to contact them at 770-513-5300 with any information in the case.
