The Gainesville City Council on Tuesday voted to approve a rezoning request that will allow the construction of a rehabilitation facility on Limestone Parkway.
The rehab facility that will be built by the Northeast Georgia Health System will treat patients recovering from stroke, head injury, amputation and other complex medical issues.
The two-story 27,200 square-foot office will join the nursing home, dentist lab and assisted living facility all located within the Limestone Parkway overlay zone.
NGMC Gainesville currently only allows for 24 inpatient beds and the new rehab facility will alow for 50 beds.
“We just don't have these types of rehab facilities,” said council member Zack Thompson. “And for this one to come along in the right spot at the right time by the right people I think it is very important for our area.”
Construction of the facility is planned to take place in the second quarter of 2024.
