Man recovered from Lake Lanier following apparent drowning; search underway for 2nd man

One man's body was recovered from Lake Lanier in an apparent drowning and authorities are continuing to search for a second man in the lake following two separate incidents Saturday in Hall County.

According to Mark McKinnon, public affairs officer with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, DNR Game Wardens and Hall County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the first drowning call Saturday near East Bank Park on Lake Lanier.

The victim in the first incident was reportedly swimming from a boat when he went beneath the water and did not resurface. A search immediately began using boat-mounted sonar and Hall County Fire Rescue's ROV, according to McKinnon.

The victim was recovered just after 9 p.m. Saturday in about 46 feet of water. They were identified as Tracey Stewart, 61, of Stone Mountain.

In the second, unrelated incident, game wardens and Hall County Fire Rescue personnel responded to a drowning call Saturday evening near Van Pugh Park. A man, 27, was reportedly swimming from a boat, went under, and did not resurface.

The search for the man was continuing as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

McKinnon did not release the name of the man in the second incident.
