A house fire broke out Tuesday night and continued into the early morning hours Wednesday at a single-family home in Gillsville.

At approximately 10:02 p.m. Tuesday units from Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded to 1175 Welborn Road in Gillsville after receiving reports of a single-family structure fire.

Upon arrival, responders found a working fire inside the home with visible smoke rising from under the roof. Crews fought the fire, which extended into the kitchen and attic areas of the home, according to Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols.

The Jackson County Fire Department also responded to the scene in coordination with Banks County.

The residence was listed as having received “extensive damage,” Nichols said.

No injuries were reported by county officials. Assistance was requested for the family through an “on-scene company” following the blaze.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and conclude operations by approximately 3:44 a.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department.
