Man from Cumming killed in Forsyth County wreck, Gainesville woman facing charges

A man from Cumming was killed in a head-on wreck Wednesday afternoon in north Forsyth County, and a woman from Gainesville was charged with driving under the influence in connection with that incident.

According to a press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, authorities responded at about 6:45 p.m. to the head-on wreck on Parks Road west of Burrus Mill Road.

Yamilet Sanchez Pagan, 24, of Gainesville, was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 truck west on Parks Road when the truck allegedly crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a Ford F-150 head-on. The driver of the F-150, Salvador Cervantes Bernal, 48, of Cumming, was pronounced dead at the scene. Pagan was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The agency said Pagan was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. She was charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, failure to maintain lane and failure to maintain insurance.

Pagan will be arrested by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office once she is released from the hospital.

The crash remained under investigation as of Thursday morning.
