Wanted man attacks Towns County deputy with handsaw during arrest

By AccessWDUN Staff

A man wanted for probation violation allegedly threatened to kill a deputy and attempted to assault a deputy with a handsaw during his arrest in Towns County in May.

According to a social media post issued Monday afternoon by the Towns County Sheriff's Office, Edward Compton Treisback, 63, was charged with felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement official and obstruction of an officer following the incident.

According to the agency, residents of Tate City expressed concerns in April 2023 about the man living on Rhododendron Circle.

Treisback had been released from federal custody after serving his sentence for one count of receipt of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography. The agency said he was a fugitive from justice hiding out in Tate City.

"A federal probation officer supplied Towns County Sheriff’s Office with a copy of an arrest warrant for Treisback for probation violation," the social media post said.

The sheriff's office set up surveillance on the home to make sure Treisback was inside after attempting to make contact with the man on May 22. Deputies, Sheriff Ken Henderson and Chief Deputy Gene Moss executed the arrest warrant.

At that time, Treisback allegedly verbally threatened to kill a deputy and attempted to assault the deputy with a handsaw. He also punched the deputy in the face.

"Treisback failed to comply with lawful commands, resisting arrest in an attempt to escape," the social media post said. "Treisback was taken into custody using the necessary force to effect the arrest."

Treisback was turned over to the U.S. Marshalls and is facing federal charges.
