Gainesville man arrested on list of entering auto charges

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Gainesville man has been arrested after authorities say he broke into several vehicles in his neighborhood over the past week.

Hall County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Derreck Booth said deputies identified Joseph Phillip Morone, age 26, as a suspect after investigating two entering auto cases at the same residence on Antioch Lane Monday morning. He was arrested later that same morning at his home on Antioch Campground Road.

Investigators later determined Morone had broken into several other vehicles in the area between June 1 and June 5.

"One was, he entered an SUV on Farmhouse Road. He entered an SUV in the 3300 block of Antioch Lane, that was a different home than the one the investigators were at [Monday,]" Booth said. "He also entered an SUV in the 1100 block of Antioch Campground Road."

Booth said Morone took cash and gift cards during the crimes, with an estimated value of more than $300. He is currently in the Hall County Jail on more than $28,000 bond, facing five felony counts of entering an automobile.

Booth said none of the cars were heavily damaged in the break-ins.

"The lion's share of them, if not all five of these were situations where the vehicles were unlocked, so he was able to make access without breaking a window or causing damage," Booth said.
