Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield says he plans to recommend Johnson High School Assistant Principal Amy Wade as the next principal of West Hall Middle School.

Schofield announced the decision Monday.

“Amy Wade has many strengths as an educational leader, but in particular we are impressed with her strong instructional background,” Schofield said. “She and the faculty at West Hall Middle School both understand that a culture of compassion and high expectations is key to student learning. Knowing this, we can’t help but be excited for the students and community.”

Schofield's recommendation will be forwarded to the Hall County School Board for a final vote at its next meeting on June 12. If approved, Wade would fill the role left vacant by Ethan Banks, who school district officials said would not be returning next year.

Prior to becoming assistant principal at Johnson, Wade was an assistant principal at Lumpkin County middle and high schools. She has also worked in education in both Fulton and Whitfield counties.

Wade said she's excited about the move.

“I am honored and humbled to be able to join the team of educators at West Hall Middle School” Wade said. “I look forward to working alongside the educators and students and continuing the long-established tradition of hard work and the commitment to excellence for which the Spartan community is known. I am eager to return to middle school, to meet everyone, and to start planning for a great year. I am excited and grateful to be a Spartan!”

School board members received some pushback from parents, teachers and students of the school when it was announced that Banks would not return. Several spoke at the school board's meeting on April 24 in support of Banks.
