The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that the woman killed in Wednesday's midtown Atlanta shooting was one if its employees.
According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the woman has been identified as Amy St. Pierre, age 38.
St. Pierre was killed when Atlanta police say Deion Patterson, age 24, entered a Northside Hospital medical building on Peachtree Street NW and shot five people just after noon. The other four victims survived their injuries, but three were still listed in critical condition as of last report.
“CDC is deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of a colleague killed today in the Midtown Atlanta shooting," CDC Division of Media Relations Director Benjamin N. Hayes said in an email to the AJC. "Our hearts are with her family, friends, and colleagues as they remember her and grieve this tragic loss.”
Patterson was later captured in Cobb County.
The five victims, all women, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. A shelter-in-place order was issued for the midtown area, but it was lifted shortly after 3:00 p.m.
