Gwinnett County Police Officer involved in fatal pedestrian collision

A Gwinnett County Police officer was the driver in a collision that left a pedestrian dead in Norcross early Easter morning.

In a release, Gwinnett Police Department Public Information Officer Michelle Pihera said the officer was patrolling the area of Brook Hollow Parkway near Mitchell Road when he hit a man who was reportedly walking in the roadway at around 3:30 a.m. The Georgia State Patrol said the officer attempted to avoid the man on the road but was unable to avoid a collision. The officer began rendering aid, but the man later died of his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Ramon Perez, age 48 of Lawrenceville.

The officer, who has not been identified, suffered minor injuries. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
