Busy day on the coaching front at Chestatee: two hires, one resignation

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — It has been a busy day at Chestatee on the coaching front for Chestatee Athletic Director Matt Stowers.

First, Scott DeGraff announced late Thursday that he was stepping down as the program's wrestling coach. DeGraff, a Chestatee alum, was an assistant from 2011-19 before taking over the head coaching duties in 2020 of both the girls and boys programs. He led the Lady War Eagles to a state Duals title in 2021.

Then on Friday, Stowers announced first that former Chestatee standout Shelby Palmer would be the next Chestatee softball coach. After that, Stowers said former Chestate werstling coach Cary Whitlow was returning to that role to replace DeGraff, his former player. Whiltow coached the War Eagles for 10 seasons before returning this past season as an assistant.

Then late Friday, Stowers made another announcement that boys basketball coach Tanner Plemmons was stepping down after two seaons in Sardis.
