GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Karen Towles, who guided the Lakeview girls basketball team to the GIAA semifinals this season, has been named head volleyball coach.
John Simpson, head of school, made the announcement on Friday.
“Karen is not only an outstanding teacher and coach, but she is also a mentor and role model for students of all ages,” said Simpson. “She never misses an opportunity to engage a student in conversation that may not occur in the classroom. She will do an excellent job with our Lady Lions, and we look forward to the 2023 season.”
Towles joined Lakeview 23 years ago as a physical education teacher and coach, leading tennis, basketball and volleyball teams.
She is a graduate of the University of North Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and an M.Ed. Her teaching career began at South Forsyth Middle School before she came to Lakeview in 1998.
She was named the 2021 Lower School Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), beating out nominees from 160 schools statewide.
