It really is the Sweet 16 for northeast Georgia area volleyball teams.
Sixteen teams spanning all seven classifications moved through to the second round of the Georgia High School Association volleyball playoffs earlier this week. Now they will try to see if they can advance to the Elite 8 on Saturday.
Region champs Buford (Region 8-6A), Jackson County (8-5A), Chestatee (6-3A), and Jefferson (8-3A) all will be at home and are favorites to move through.
The most intriguing matchup will have Chestatee playing host to arch-rival North Hall. The two Region 6-3A teams find themselves in an early playoff showdown due to the Power Rankings System (PRS) which has the Lady War Eagles as the No. 2 overall seed in Class 3A. The Lady Trojans are seeded 18th but knocked off No. 15 seed Northwest Whitfield on the road in the first round.
Cherokee Bluff may have the toughest second round assignment. The Lady Bears, seeded 17th, travel to No. 1 overall seed Richmond Academy in the Class 3A tournament.
