Basketball playoffs: 12 NEGa. girls teams, 3 boys teams continue March to Macon this weekend

Over a dozen Northeast Georgia basketball teams continue the March to Macon in the Sweet 16 of the Georgia High School Association and Georgia Independent Athletic Association tournament this weekend.

A dozen girls teams will tip off the action on Friday with several exciting matchups, and only three boys teams are set to play on Saturday.

On the girl's side, in Class 7A, Buford will get a big test from Cherokee at the Buford Arena in a battle between two traditional girls basketball powerhouses. 

In Class 6A, Gainesville looks to keep its season rolling with a win over a solid Woodstock team on the road. You can hear the action live on AM 1240 & FM 94.5 The Lake. Habersham Central travels down to battle Hughes. 

In Class 4A, Chestatee, a No. 1 seed, will have a dogfight against No. 2 seed Stockbridge at the Lynn Cottrell Center. You can hear the action live on AM 550 & FM 102.9 WDUN. No. 2 seed East Forsyth will travel to No. 1 seed Leulla. 

In Class 3A, third-ranked Lumpkin County, a No. 2 seed, will go on the road for the first time in three seasons in the second round to No. 1 seed Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. Dawson County, a No. 3 seed, hopes to continue its hot streak at home against another upset guru, No. 4 seed Adairsville.

In Class 2A, No. 1 seed Banks County should be OK against No. 3 seed New Creation in Homer, Ga., and in Class A Division 1, Rabun County, a No. 2 seed, plays host to No. 3 seed Pepperell.

On the boy's side, Union County, a No. 2 seed, travels to top-seeded Columbia in a Class 2A matchup. Rabun County, a No. 1 seed, will play host to No. 4 seed King's Ridge in Class A Division 1, and Lakeview will play St. Andrews in the GIAA playoffs in Macon.
