Gas Prices increase over Christmas holiday

By Hamilton Keener Anchor / Reporter

Gas prices in Georgia increased this week, with drivers paying an average price of $3.01 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.

AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said Monday's state average was 5 cents more than a week ago and 22 cents more than a month ago. It was 31 cents more than this time last year.

“The upward trend in crude oil prices and attacks on ships in the Red Sea caused gas prices to increase across the country,” Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said. “This is not the news Georgians wanted to hear ahead of the new year, but unless wholesale gasoline prices change course and drop considerably, pump prices may continue to rise.”

Georgians are paying nearly $5.00 more to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.

According to AAA the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.12 as of Monday.
