After one Gainesville man allegedly shot and injured another last week, both have now been arrested.
Hall County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer B.J. Williams said the alleged shooting happened at a home on Biscayne Place on the east side of Gainesville on Wednesday, May 28.
"What we know up to this point is the shooting suspect, 23-year-old Mehki Jabron Ellison of Gainesville, specifically went to the residence to confront the victim," Williams said. "When he confronted the victim, he opened fire with a 9 millimeter handgun and hit (the victim) in the lower extremities."
The victim of the shooting was identified as Josheau Kiera Hester, age 42. Hester was able to leave the scene and go to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of his injuries.
While he was at the hospital, Williams said authorities learned he had several outstanding warrants.
"Mr. Hester is somebody that our drug investigators had been looking for since December 3, 2024," Williams said. "He was part of a drug investigation at his residence on Bliss Drive last December, and he had warrants issued for his arrest on a number of drug charges."
Williams said that drug investigation yielded over a dozen oxycodone tablets, nearly four pounds of marijuana, 30 grams of MDMA and several THC pens. Hester is facing possession with intent to distribute charges for all of those drugs.
Ellison, meanwhile, was reported as having fled the scene of the shooting. He was identified as the suspect and was later found and arrested by Oakwood Police officers at the Walmart store on Mundy Mill Road in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 3.
Both men remain in the Hall County Jail without bond as of Wednesday afternoon. Ellison faces multiple aggravated assault charges.
Williams said the case remains under investigation.
