Lumpkin Co. officials warn of scammers posing as law enforcement

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Authorities in Lumpkin County are warning the public about a series of phone scams posing as a county sheriff's office employee.

A social media post by the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office Friday said officials have received multiple complaints by residents about scammers posing as sheriff's office Lieutenant Alan Roach.

"We do have an employee Lieutenant Alan Roach that works for us but he will NEVER CALL you to ask for money," the post said.

Authorities advised residents in the county to hang up if they receive a similar call and not to give away any personal information over the phone.

"We will never ask for money from a person over the phone," the post said.
