Crash involving school bus near Oakwood sends three to hospital

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Three people were taken to nearby hospitals after an accident involving a school bus near Oakwood Wednesday morning.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol said the bus was going north on Atlanta Highway around 7:40 a.m. when a southbound Toyota Corolla failed to yield while turning left onto the I-985 Northbound entrance ramp. The bus then hit the Corolla in the intersection.

Stan Lewis with the Hall County School District said four students from West Hall High School and West Hall Middle School were on board the bus at the time and two of them were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution at the request of their parents. Both students were checked out and later released.

State Patrol officials said the driver of the Corolla, Charnell R. Haymond, age 34 of Powder Springs, was also hospitalized and cited for Failure to Yield and Driving with a Suspended License.

The driver of the bus was not injured.
