Subject of manhunt in Habersham County now facing additional charges in Athens-Clarke County

By AccessWDUN Staff

The subject of a manhunt in Habersham County Monday is now facing additional charges from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department officials said Tuesday.

On Oct. 29 officers responded to reports of battery at Broad Acres Apartments in Athens. Upon arrival, officers found a victim with cuts and scrapes on her forearm, hands and knees. She also had "swollen knots" on her head from repeated strikes.

The victim identified the suspect as Rahim Abdullah at that time, according to authorities.

Abdullah reportedly held the victim inside a residence and refused to let her leave. Eventually, a friend of the victim arrived and the victim was able to escape, but sustained the head injuries. Abdullah also stole the victim's iPhone at that time, according to Athens-Clarke County Police.

Abdullah is now facing charges of battery and robbery from that county, along with other charges accrued from the GSP.

Authorities are searching for a man they say could be armed and dangerous in Habersham County.

The Habersham County Sheriff's Office said on social media at about 12:45 p.m. that they were assisting the Georgia State Patrol with the search.

Authorities were searching for the man, identified as Rahim Abdullah, 50, near Tom Arrendale Interchange as of early Monday afternoon. The man could be in the area of Ga. 15, Ga. 365 and Toccoa Highway. The sheriff's office urged citizens not to approach the man if he is spotted and to call 911.

Few details were released, with the agency only describing the suspect as a black male with dreadlocks.

The Georgia State Patrol said a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black vehicle on Ga. 365 in Habersham County earlier Monday, but that vehicle fled north on the roadway. The vehicle traveled into oncoming traffic on Ga. 365 during that pursuit.

Abdullah then attempted to exit onto the on-ramp of Ga. 365 and Ga. 17 before losing control and crashing. He then fled the scene and still remained at large as of 3:30 p.m.

The Georgia State Patrol said Abdullah is wanted following a false imprisonment/battery incident on October 29 in Athens-Clarke County. The victim in that incident was recently found dead.
