4 injured in head-on wreck near Royston

Four people were hospitalized, including one with serious injuries, after a head-on wreck Saturday afternoon on GA 106 near Royston in Franklin County.

According to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded at about 5:40 p.m. to the scene of the two-vehicle wreck near Cromers Bridge Road.

The agency said a Ford Excursion was driving southbound on the roadway when it failed to maintain its lane and traveled into the northbound lane. The Excursion then hit an oncoming Honda Accord.

The driver of the Excursion, Payton Riley Caldwell, 19, of Crawford, and two other teenage passengers, were all transported to Piedmont Athens Regional with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Accord, Tatsianna Nicole Peeples, 32, of Royston, was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The agency did not release any information on whether charges will be filed in the wreck.
