Gainesville PD release new footage of vehicle from fatal September hit-and-run

The Gainesville Police Department Tuesday released new footage of the vehicle from a fatal hit-and-run in late Sept. as the investigation and search for the suspect continues.

A Gainesville man was killed in a hit-and-run on Sept. 24 at approximately 8:30 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle in the area of Spring Road and McEver Road, according to Gainesville authorities.

The victim, Omer Herman Morris, 37, was reportedly walking along the roadway when he was struck by a dark-colored sport utility vehicle towing a trailer. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville but later died from his injuries.

The vehicle fled the scene after the crash and was seen heading toward Dawsonville Highway.

New footage has now been released showing the suspect vehicle driving past a BP gas station along Dawsonville Highway near Sardis Road.

That video footage can be viewed at the top of this page.

The case remained under investigation as of Tuesday. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Gainesville Police by calling (770) 536-8812.
