Basketball: NHall sweeps Union at home; LCA girls fall

GAINESVILLE — The North Hall girls ran their win streak to four with a tough 55-49 win over Union County on Monday at Lynn Cottrell Court.

The non-region game was a make-up from a cancelation earlier in the season because of weather.

North Hall (15-5) blew open a close game with a big 12-0 run to open the second half. Kristina Peach led the Lady Trojans (15-5) with 20 points. Amelia Shoemaker added 17 points for North Hall.

Union County (11-9) saw its modest two-game win streak snapped with the loss. Ariel McCarter paced the Lady Panthers with 19 points. Lara Turner had 12, Morgan Warren 8, and Corrine Hill 6 for Union County.

North Hall next will play host to Johnson on Tuesday in Region 8-4A North action. Union County will play host to East Jackson on Wednesday in Region 8-2A play.

The Trojans needed a win to regain some confidence and did just that in a non-region game at home. Matthew Ray poured in a game-high 27 points for North Hall.

Cole Hulsey added 12 points for the Trojans (10-10).

North Hall came into the matchup having lost three straight and 6 of its last 7 overall, beginning with a loss to Gainesville in the Lanierland finals.

Union County (13-7) had its five-game win streak, including a buzzer-beating win over Class 2A No. 3 Providence Christian on Friday, snapped with the loss.

The Lady Lightning dropped their second game of the season to the Lady Knights at home on Monday.

LCA's Ellie Roberts led all scorers with 12 points. Adelyn Gough had 9, Meav Fouts had 6, and Kaitlyn DeLozier had 5 for the Lady Lightning (10-11).

LCA next travels to Young Americans Christian on Tuesday in a GAPPS region matchup.
