Girls basketball: Buford wins battle of ranked teams; LCA, Lakeview have win streaks snapped

BUFORD, Ga. — Ava Grace Watson poured in 25 points to lead Class 7A No. 5 Buford to an impressive 80-60 win over Class A Division 1 No. 1 St. Francis at The Buford Arena on Saturday.

The Lady Wolves (13-0) led throughout. They showed their offensive flexibility as seven different players scored in the opening quarter while building a 22-15 lead. However, in the second quarter Watson poured in 8 points and Taylor Romano drained three 3-pointers as they ran out to a 41-32 halftime.

Buford blew it open in the third outscoring the Lady Knights (13-5) 27-12 for a big 68-44 advantage.

Romano 17 points, including five 3-pointers, for Buford. Betty Nguyen and Lydia Ledford each had 10 points for the Lady Wolves.


UNION COUNTY 45,
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 40

The Lady Lions (7-10) saw their three-game win streak snapped on the road on Saturday.

Taliah Gaither continued her strong play pouring in 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Lakeview. Dynesty Putman added 15 points and 5 assists for the Lady Lions.

It was tight game the entire way with game tied at 22 at halftime.

Lakeview Academy opens its GIAA AAAA/AAA District 4 schedule next Friday vs Bethlehem Christian.

Union County (9-7, 0-1 Region 8-2A) is also until Friday when it plays host to East Jackson in a region contest.


NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 47,
LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 30

Lanier Christian Academy saw its five-game win streak come to an end in a loss on Saturday on the road.

Adelyn Gough led the Lady Lightning (9-6) with 14 points.

LCA next will travel to Pinecrest Academy on Tuesday for a GAPPS region showdown.
