Hall County Sheriff's Office awarded $325K grant for DUI enforcement

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has announced the Hall County Sheriff's Office has received a Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic grant worth $324,999. 

According to a press release from the GOHS, Hall County is one of 21 law enforcement agencies in the state to receive the H.E.A.T. grant for the Federal 2023 fiscal year. 

The H.E.A.T. program aims to combat crashes, injuries and fatalities caused by those driving under the influence. It also focuses on seatbelt use and educating the public about traffic safety.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office H.E.A.T. Until will use the grant to develop strategies to reduce traffic accidents due to aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors.

"With the increase in the number of persons killed in traffic crashes in Georgia and across the nation over the last year, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety is working with partners like the Hall County Sheriff's Office to implement programs designed to stop the risky driving behaviors that are contributing to a majority of our serious-injury and fatality crashed," Allen Poole, Director of the GOHS said. "Many of the fatal traffic crashes on our roads are preventable, and we will continue to work with our educational and enforcement partners to develop programs and initiatives that are designed to get Georgia to our goal of zero traffic deaths."

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said he was grateful for the funds.

H.E.A.T. grants fund specialized traffic enforcement units in counties across the state. The program was designed to help jurisdictions with the highest rates of traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities with grants awarded based on impaired driving and speeding data.
