Gainesville garbage & recycling customers may temporarily see slower service

By Austin Eller News Director

Customers serviced by the City of Gainesville's Solid Waste Division may experience a temporary slowdown in garbage and recycling service due to various factors, including staff vacancies.

A social media post from the City of Gainesville said the Solid Waste Division will focus on collecting household garbage first, then prioritize recycling pickup during this time.

Gainesville public relations manager Christina Santee said they issued the notice to warn customers that a slowdown is possible, not guaranteed.

Santee said the slowdown may occur due to vacancies, some staff on light duty, staff who were out this week and higher trash volume coming off of the Labor Day holiday weekend.

"Solid Waste Division personnel are doing their best to prevent any noticeable delay," Santee said. "Should customers see a delay, we appreciate their patience until crews can service all households."
