A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an elderly man in Jefferson on July 23.
Jefferson Police Chief Joe Wirthman said the victim was driving in Jefferson when he got in a confrontation with Chad Miller, 22. Miller was riding a bicycle at the time.
Miller reportedly punched the victim in the face, knocking him into his car. The victim suffered several fractures in his face and a concussion. The victim previously told authorities that Miller put a phone in his face, as if to record him, leading to the confrontation.
Miller turned himself into authorities on Monday.
While several social media posts implied that the confrontation may have been the result of a TikTok challenge, Wirthman said investigators do not believe that was the case.
"As far as we know right now, we're still investigating ... this was not a TikTok challenge or anything like that," Wirthman said. "It just was an isolated incident."
Miller was charged with aggravated battery and elder abuse. He remained in the Jackson County Jail as of early Tuesday afternoon.
