Jackson EMC awards $92,000 in grants to Hall County charities

Jackson Electric Membership Corporation Foundation board of directors awarded $92,000 worth of grants to Hall County charities during its April meeting.
 
Jackson EMC makes grants through its members’ contributions. According to a press release from Jackson EMC, 205,891 members round their monthly electric bills through the Operation Round Up Program.
 
L.A.M.P Ministries in Gainesville received $20,000 that will go towards its community youth and children’s program. This program gives individual counseling, community activities and mentorship to high-risk youth from Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson and Lumpkin counties.
 
Extra Special People obtained $20,000 for their eight-week summer camp. This Watkinsville-based organization gives special needs or seriously ill children from low-income families an opportunity to master new skills and make new friends.
 
Jackson EMC awarded $15,000 to Camp Twin Lakes, which provides year-round therapeutic, educational and recreational activities to children with serious illnesses.
 
The University of North Georgia Foundation Inc., received $15,000 for its Steps to College program, which offers summer classes to English learners in Jackson EMC’s service area. These courses help students gain enough credits to graduate high school.
 
The Gainesville Housing Corporation has $10,000 to provide affordable housing to working and poor families from Gainesville. According to the press release, this corporation also provides materials for the RISE Summer Education Program. This program provides educational opportunities to low-income and high-risk youth from Hall and Gwinnett Counties.
 
Suwanee-based Tiny Stitches, Inc. obtained $7,500 which will go towards materials and supplies for infant clothing. Mothers from Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall and Jackson counties can receive clothing and blankets for their newborns if they do not have any.
 
Foster Siblings Reunited (Camp to Belong) received $5,000 from Jackson EMC for its summer camp and virtual sibling connection events. These events connect foster siblings who may be living apart in order to strengthen childhood memories.
