Gas prices increase again setting a new record high

Gas prices continue to jump, now setting record highs. The weekly AAA report released Monday morning shows another 32-cent increase from a week ago. That means it’s 96-cents more than last month and $1.61 more than this time last year. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price statewide of $4.29 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.

Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters says the increase in price has set records. “Since the New Year, the national average has continued a steady climb due to strained supply and increased demand. But Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February caused oil prices to spike further,” says Waiters. “These are numbers not seen at the pump since the financial crisis in 2008, the highest on record until last week.”

The previous record high was set in September of 2008 when gas hit a $4.16 average for the state of Georgia.

In our area, White County has some of the lowest pump prices, averaging $4.10 per gallon for regular unleaded gas. Forsyth, Dawson and Lumpkin have some of the highest gas prices in Northeast Georgia, each of them averaging right at $4.32 per gallon.
