Boys basketball playoffs: Dragons advance with OT win over Westside-Macon; Towns, Buford roll to quarters; Commerce falls

JEFFERSON — Jefferson advanced to the Class 4A quarterfinals Saturday night after surviving a wild overtime finish against Westside-Macon.

The Dragons held on for 64-62 victory over the Seminoles at The Arena.

Dalen Gales poured in 25 points to lead Jefferson. Kadin Bailey added 16 points for the Dragons.

Jefferson will travel to Westover in Albany on either Tuesday or Wednesday in the Class 4A playoffs. The Patriots beat Luella 65-57 on Saturday to advance.


TOWNS COUNTY 58,
CHARLTON COUNTY 51

The second-seeded Indians continued their Class A title defense with an impressive win over seventh-ranked and No. 1 seed Charlton County on the road Saturday.

In a tight battle with Charlton County, the Indians were able to find success in the paint against 6-foo-8 big man, Elyiss Williams and power forward Jaylen King, but also found themselves in a dogfight from the get-go.

Towns County built a nine-point lead and a 10 point lead, but Charlton County stormed back both times, tying the game, 48-48, late in the game. In particular, Floyd swished a 3-pointer with two minutes to go to push the Indians to a three-point lead, including a game-sealing steal. 

Crowder led the Indians with 29 points, while Floyd tossed in 12. 

Towns County (20-7) will travel to fifth-ranked Manchester in the quarterfinals. Time and date to be announced. 


BUFORD 62,
STATESBORO 51

Buford, a No. 2 seed, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 6A tournament with the win over No. 1 seed Statesboro. They'll travel to Carrollton this week. Time and date to be announced. 


DUBLIN 70,
COMMERCE 41

Cayden Lord led Commerce with nine points and Kemanni Horne added 8 in the loss to Dublin on the road Saturday in the second round of the Class A-Public state tournament.
