More than half of the Northeast Georgia girls teams in the Georgia High School Association's state tournament advanced to the second round.
The second round is slated to begin on Friday and end Saturday night. The majority of the games will be played on Friday, with three set for Saturday night.
Region 8-2A had the most success in the opening round with three teams advancing, Rabun County, Banks County and Union County. Both Banks County (Friday) and Union County (Saturday) will be on the road. Rabun County, a No. 1 seed, will host Woodville-Thompkins on Friday in Tiger.
Speaking of hosting, North Forsyth, Jefferson and Lumpkin County will all be at home in the second round -- not a big surprise as all three are ranked No. 1 in their respective classifications.
That could change, however, as the GHSA's coin toss to determine the home team when "like seeds" play each other fell to the bottom of the bracket. That means North Forsyth, Lumpkin County and Jefferson would all be on the road in the quarterfinals.
