Girls basketball: Buford, Lakeview close out region play with wins

BUFORD — The Buford girls completed a perfect regular season in Region 8-6A after a 61-21 rout of Shiloh on Friday n both teams’ regular season finale at the Buford Arena.

The Class 6A fourth-ranked Lady Wolves (21-3, 12-0 Region 8-6A) turned on the defense early, opening the game with a 21-1 run. They held the Lady Generals  (2-19, 0-12 Region 8-6A) to just 4 points in the second quarter while taking a 34-5 halftime lead.

It didn’t get any better for Shiloh in the second half. Buford held them to just 5 points in the third quarter.

Taylor Romano led 12 Buford scorers with 18 points, 14 coming in the third quarter. Tatum Ozment finished with 8 points.

Jazmin Vital led Shiloh with 10 points.

The Lady Lions closed out their regular season with another Region 6-A Private win on Friday.

It was Lakeview’s fifth straight win and secured a No. 3 seed in the upcoming region tournament.

The Lady Lions (12-11, 5-3 Region 6-A Private) jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and took a 28-18 lead into the break.

Pinecrest (7-12, 2-9 Region 6-A Private) closed to within 38-32 heading into the fourth quarter but Lakeview was able to pull away late.

Joelle Snyder poured in 23 points to lead Lakeview. Dynesty Putman added 11 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds and Sidney Corbin had 8 points and 6 assists. Sara Nivens pulled down 7 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview will be back in action on Thursday in first round of the region tournament at Kings Ridge.
