Boys basketball: Lakeview takes down No. 4 Mt. Pisgah; Dawson, LCA, North Forsyth, NHall win; Johnson, GHS lose

GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy used a fourth-quarter rally to knock off Class A Private No. 4-ranked Mt. Pisgah, 71-62, on Friday in Region 6-A Private action at home.

The win for the Lions (8-14, 5-8 Region 6-A Private) snapped a three-game losing streak while handing the defending Class A Private state champion Patriots (17-4, 12-1 Region 6-A Private) their first region loss of the season.

Lakeview led most of the way leading 25-17 after the first quarter and taking a 39-32 lead into halftime. But Mt. Pisgah answered in the third quarter.

The Patriots outscored the Lions 19-12 to tie the game at 51 heading into the fourth quarter. Lakeview responded back, closing out the game on a 20-11 run to seal the upset win.

Isaiah Rico paced four Lakeview players in double figures with 18 points. Liam Weidner added 17 points, Harrison Cooper had 16 points, and Jack Collins 12 points for the Lions. Ryan Black also had 8 points for Lakeview.

Lakeview travels to Brandon Hall on Saturday in another key region game.


DAWSON COUNTY 86,
WEST HALL 61

Trey Harvey poured in 34 points, 20 in the second half, to lead the Tigers to a win in both teams’ Region 7-3A season finales at the Dawson County gym.

The win for Dawson County (6-19, 5-9 Region 7-3A) gives the Tigers their first two-game win streak of the season, clinched the fifth seed in the upcoming Region 7-3A Tournament, and also allows them to host the first round of the boys tournament on Tuesday.

West Hall (8-17, 4-10 Region 7-3A) started strong, taking a 19-17 lead after the opening quarter. But Dawson County used a 21-10 second quarter to run out to a 38-29 lead by halftime.

The Spartans cut it to 60-53 heading into the fourth quarter but Harvey sparked a 26-8 finish for the Tigers with 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Lane Perry added 12 points for Dawson County. Luke Mulberry and Caden Reed had 11 points apiece for the Tigers.

Owen Jenkins led West Hall with 19 points. Stephen Clark had 11 points, and Zach Stephens and Andrew Malin chipped in 9 points each for the Spartans.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 86,
PEACHTREE ACADEMY 60

LCA scored 33 fourth-quarter points to blow open a close game to take a  region win in their regular-season finale at home.

The Lightning (11-13, 3-7 GAPPS 2-3A) led most of the way. It was a slim 21-17 LCA advantage after the first quarter but a 17-11 second-quarter run pushed the lead to 38-28 by halftime.

LCA took a 53-41 lead into the final period before the Lightning exploded on offense to blow the game open.

Jackson Wilson led 10 LCA scorers with 13 points. Landon Lyle added 12 points and Kuan Brown and Luke Winkler each had 11 points for the Lightning.


EASTSIDE 73,
JOHNSON 24

Eastside used a 27-8 second quarter to blow open a close game in Region 8-5A action.

Johnson trailed just 9-6 after the first quarter but Eastside led 36-14 at halftime after the big run. The Eagles continued the offensive explosion outscoring Johnson 25-4 in the third quarter.

Bryce Parson led Johnson with 10 points.

Eastside was paced by Raje Benton and Kavian Sanders, who each had 12 points.

Johnson next will play host to Jackson County on Tuesday.


NORTH FORSYTH 61,
GAINESVILLE 53

The Raiders (6-5, 12-12 Region 6-7A) rallied to the lead at halftime and never looked back in the win over Gainesville (5-17, 1-10 Region 6-7A) on Friday at Raider Arena. 

The game was back and forth early in the first quarter until Charlie Reisman and Ellis Pitts set Gainesville on a 7-0 run to end the opening period and a 14-8 lead. Reisman led Gainesville with 18 points, and Pitts had 16. 

The Red Elephants pushed their lead up seven points, 22-15 off a Bryce Spain bucket with 4:01 to go in the first half. But North Forsyth, behind Aidan Kudlas and Cole Kirouac, helped the Raiders outpace Gainesville 12-4 in the final three minutes of the half to take a 26-25 lead into the locker room at the half. 

Kudlas led the Raiders with 17 points, Mullis hit 13, Kirouac and Kal-el Delgadillo had 11 each.

North Forsyth took control of the game midway through the third quarter as Braden Mullis and Kirouac pushed the lead up 43-31, the largest of the game at the time.

In the fourth, Kirouac's bucket with 2:12 left, extended the lead Raiders' lead, 56-45. Gainesville closed the gap late on a couple of baskets from Reisman and Julius Jackson. 


NORTH HALL 85,
EAST FORSYTH 62

North Hall continued its stellar season with a blowout win over East Forsyth on Senior Night at Lynn Cottrell Court on Friday. 

The Trojans will be the No. 2 seed in next week's Region 7-3A tournament and will receive a bye into the semifinals and an automatic state playoff berth.
