Gwinnett County and Dawson County are opening temporary warming shelters for those in need of emergency shelter as the temperature drops in the region.
Dawson County will have a warming shelter at Rock Creek Park gym, located at 445 Martin Rd., Dawsonville, Ga. The shelter will be open to the public from 5 p.m. on December 22 until December 25 at 7 p.m.
According to a press release from the county, those in need of emergency shelter may bring their own blankets, sleeping bags, and pre-packaged snacks.
The shelter is in need of donations of new and clean blankets, sleeping bags, bottled water, and pre-packaged snacks. The county reminds those who donate items that the facility is not equipped to reheat or cook food. Donations can be dropped off at the Rock Creek Park gym on December 21 and 22. All unused items will be donated to Ric-Rack.
Although pets are not allowed, trained service dogs are permitted.

Gwinnett County said on its Human and Health Services website that starting December 22, those in need of emergency shelter can get overnight relief when the temperature drops below 35 degrees.
There are several stations around the county, and those who stay there can receive a meal, warm up, and get some rest. Most stations will be open from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m.
