Hiawassee woman charged with intentionally running over teen

A Hiawassee woman was jailed Friday after a Towns County deputy witnessed her allegedly swerve a vehicle off the roadway in an aggressive manner to intentionally run over a teenage girl.

Samantha Beck, 40, was arrested at the scene and charged by both the sheriff’s office and Georgia State Patrol.

“The lady was arrested for aggravated assault,” Sheriff Ken Henderson said. “GSP charged her with driving under the influence of drugs and some other charges. I’m not sure exactly what but it was several.”

Officers also charged Beck with disorderly conduct, failure to drive within a single lane, and improper backing.

Henderson said deputies had been called to a domestic dispute in Hiawassee when the incident was observed.

The 17-year-old victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, has not been named by the sheriff’s office.

“They got medical assistance there and they had called for a chopper to airlift her, but then I think they made the decision that she didn’t have serious enough injuries, so they took her to the ER,” Henderson said.

Royce Lee Beck, 40, of Hiawassee also was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and acts.

The teen victim and a child were turned over to the Georgia Division of Family and Children’s Services.
